The Incubator Thread

I loved my Brinsea Octagon 20 too - until last night when I tried to fire it up for the first time this year. The fan comes on but there's no light and the unit doesn't heat up. It's off warranty as it was purchased in 2012, but I've only used it a few times and it had been working beautifully when I packed it up for storage last summer. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if you were able to get the incubator repaired in a timely and cost-effective manner. I emailed the company, however didn't recall that they are located in England (I'm in Oregon). Do they have authorized dealers and technicians stateside? I could possibly troubleshoot the problem myself or answer my own questions except that I can't find the owner's manual and don't want to do more damage.

Thank you, Yorkshire. That is the website I checked. It appears from their product list that they no longer sell the Octagon 20 model, though they do have a few parts available (not that would help my situation, unfortunately). I'm still waiting/hoping to get a response from the company to my email so perhaps all hope is not lost yet.

My son out 16 Ameraucana eggs in a Little Giant still air incubator today. It has the egg turner It was given to us by our neighbors. We hatched two times about 5 years ago with good success. We put water in the trough and it's running right at 99.5 degrees. It seems to be working for now. I don't have a humidity sensor. The egg Turner seems to be turning more often than I remembered. I was thinking it would turn them every 12 hours.

How often should they be getting turned by the Turner?

Any advice?

We bought the eggs from a breeder and some of the eggs are pretty small. I hope they will be ok.

I have hatched a lot of eggs without ever knowing what the humidity was, but I have better hatches now monitoring the humidity too. I forgot how often the egg turners does a cycle(from left to right and back to left)-----I think every 2 hours or so. Good Luck!

Ok, so the LG incubator with fan is up and running. We had a thermometer in the center of the incubator and we were watching the temp and it seemed to be holding up consistently. We added a second thermometer this morning (we put the egg in yesterday afternoon) on the inside edge of the incubator and it read several degrees higher than the middle. We took the thermometers out and checked them in the room temp and they seemed fine. So, it looks like we may have cooked the outside edge eggs during the night! The temp read 110.

Is this because the fan is blowing cooler air into the bator in the center and then it's blowing the hot air to the outsides? Did we already kill the chicks on the outside?
