Short answer is she is not processing calcium well, either because she is not getting enough - for her - or something else is interfering.

What works for me is adding calcium gluconate to her water at night (there is no swim pan in the night pen, so she only drinks from the drinking bucket). One teaspoon Ca gluconate per half cup of water.

You can also try free choice oyster shell or clean finely crushed egg shells. Dandelions are said to have a bit of calcium in them, too. And avoid spinach - it seems to interfere with calcium absorption.

Probiotics and poultry vitamins would be a good idea in case there are digestive issues.

Vigorous mating activity can push an egg out before it's ready, too.

(I speak from experience with these things).

Another supplement - prescription - is Neocalglucon, 1.5 mL daily. Easiest way I found to give that was in 2 tablespoons of crushed peas.

Hello and thanks for making this thread, I'm a first-time duck owner. I got a dozen assorted ducks (mostly runners) from IDEAL and just let them into the pond this week, they're 15 weeks old now. I have a question that I can't find the answer to any where:

Are ducks GOOD for the health of a pond?

My pond is about 60 feet in diameter, basic dug-out hole that collects drainage from a field. Its only about 1-2 feet deep, but it has a layer of rotting leaves about that thick on the bottom and its covered with duckweed right now. Everything I can find online is about how ducks are bad for aquatic plants and pet fish but heck I WANT them to eat the weeds to keep the water clear and there aren't any fish in it. I was wondering if ducks splashing around and eating algae would help the leaves on the bottom break down faster, aerate the water, keep it from stinking in summer, etc etc. or if their poo and stirring it all up would just make things worse. Thanks for any wisdom yall have to share!
