We have decided to get a few ducks. I am really lost on the best breeds for suburbia. We would like eggs, but we have plenty of hens, so laying isn't really critical. We have on order some Cayugas, but I can still change that for a few weeks.

We need quieter, good natured ducks. Any ideas? Are Cayugas good?

we have white pekin, they are good cause they can't fly around, but all ducks will leave a big mess if you have too many. they love the little swimming pool, and they love to poop.
I have a smaller kacki campbell, the female pekin is quite loud, the male is quieter. the kacki's are pretty quite. the muskovey are the quietest ones but they can fly.

Wildsky - AMEN!

I love our muscovies over the others. However, their is a change you'll get some wandering souls - they can fly. We have one who jumps up into the hen box to lay her eggs.

The thing I like the most about them is that they are quiet and not as mean as our other ducks towards everything else. They more or less leave the chickens alone but our Swedish Blue pulls everyones' tail feathers out. He's also constantly grabbing his ducklings and throwing them around. Freecycle here I come.

I have 2 Cayugas that are pretty quite but the female can be loud if she wants to be. My Pekins tend to be really loud esp. the female. They are down in the barn and when I open the house door sometimes I hear my Pekin female Quacking really loud as she is happy I am outside and may come give her a treat.

From what I just read online, Cayugas are a good choice for you because they are much more quiet than Pekins and others.
Good luck and enjoy!
