indiana bamboo

But there are some kinds of bamboo that are clumping types, not runners. I planted a clumping form 10 or more years ago and it is a very compact clump. No runners EVER.

The Fargesia genus are mostly hardy (to zone 5) and non-invasive.

I love my bamboo! It took many years to fill out but now it is a feature in my shade garden with a large stone Buddha placed in front. Last year I dug a few canes and moved them to a new location on the north side of the house, they took no problem and eventually we will have a nice clump there too.

A species of Bamboo known as "River Reed" is the closest relative that grows" naturally" in North America as I understand it. I am looking into acquiring a fair amount of actual Bamboo. My search led me here. I saw what appears to be perhaps a warning against growing it,and am always open to advice from experienced men. It is like being able to time travel into the future, to hear advice from someone who has already "been there and done that",as they say.
