Anyone expecting chicks in April?

Thread Starter

I don't know about the rest of you, but my chick fever has set in! I ordered my chicks this morning (pardon me as I jump up and down squealing) and I don't think I can wait ten weeks for them!!! I am going to pic them up April 1st. I must have sounded excited when I ordered them because the lady said, "We do ask one thing...That you don't pick them up before 10:00 in the morning, we are still getting orders organized at 8 when we open." that seriously popped my bubble, I want to go stand at the door at 7:59 and wait for them to open! lol.png

If you are getting chicks in april, post what breeds and when, and we can all take care of each other while we lay in our death beds waiting for them to arrive. lol.png

I have 100 chicks and 8 goslings coming from Ideal at the end of March. Buff Orpingtons, Black Australorps, Easter Eggers, Mottled Houdans and Brown African geese. I'm looking forward to it, this will be my second year bringing chicks into Canada. Last year my order went really well.

Well, my feed store is selling chicks. Certain breeds on certain days are coming in. Of course all the breeds I'm getting aren't coming in on the same day, so I'm getting one every week.

This is the schedule:

3/21/13- I get my Buff Orpington Omelette

3/28/13- I get my EE Pippy

4/4/13- I get my Barred Rock Hedwig.

CG3- your case is as bad as mine!!! I dunno if I'll be able to wait til March 21st either!!!

Phew! Just made it on this thread. XD

That might be a little bit stressful for the chicks, getting only one at a time. Your Buff Orp chick will be very lonely until you get the EE, and the Barred Rock will be very small compared to the other two when you get it.

Yea, I know. :P But everyone says they'll be alright. It was the only other option besides Getting my BO 3/21/13 then getting the other two like month later. Didn't want to do that.

Why don't you get a few more of each and then sell the ones you don't want to keep once they get a bit older? That way if you lose one to disease or an accident along the way then you'll have an extra. Just a thought, I'm not a fan of raising so few chicks at once, especially chicks of different ages. Its never worked well for me.
