Doesn't that cut down on the savings that going to 5 days will get them ?

I sure it would mean less savings than if they closed on Saturdays, but I am sure congress was pressured because of people not likeing only 5 day delivery but if it where Mondays, I think it would have been less backlash because of the number of paid days off they already get off on Monday, and perhaps then they stop paying for those Monday holidays other than the "floating " days like Christmas and New Years and Memorial and Labor days that most American who's employer's pays holiday would pay. No MLK day, Presidents day, no Columbus day, Also why do they get Flag day off with pay?

So you want to take most of the holidays and not pay for them ?

Read my post it does not say that. I said do not pay them the ones most full time workers who get paid holidays do not get. Most employers whom pay holidays pay New years, memorial day Independence Day, Labor day, Thanksgiving day and Christmas day.. None of the foo-foo holidays should be paid. I know of not one person who works outside the post office or the Government whom get Columbus day or any other foo foo holiday off, much less with pay.... If they want to take it off let them either use a compensated day (sick/vacation/personal buisnessday) or just take the day off without pay just like any other person would who's employer does not print money or can run deficits for decades.......

Yes it does. You want to let them take the days off but not pay them for the ones you think are foo-foo holidays.
Now I always got all the ones you listed and the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas eve or the day after and news years eve and Presidents day and Easter as payed holidays. And that was a nonunion place.
How much do you think it will cost the USPS to redo the union contract to take those foo-foo holidays out ?

You must have worked for a finance company (such as a bank or in the investment world) the government, or had a very generous employer. If the USPS is in the red then let them go to the bankruptcy courts or to congress and they will take care of the union contracts quick.....

It was a factory job making PVC Pipe. But we ran 24/7 and if your shift was scheduled to work Christmas day you worked. Or any other holiday.

So in essence they paid for those "minor holidays" and probably paid a little better than other factories in your area because of the 24/7 employment conditions. But that is the exception to the rule. I knew someone whom worked at a low paying factory job (small time factory) and they gave them 2 days off per month at half pay if it wasn't already a holiday (like thanksgiving 4 day weekend was your extra 2 days 1 full day of pay one at 1/2 pay) unless they where running behind and they didn't want to pay OT on a 4 day weekend week. They had the minor holidays off too until the local schools had a 4 day weekend a different weekend and the factory switched it. part of their reasoning was they wanted their employees to see their doctor, renew their DL etc. on the off time and not miss work the rest of the month..

And I'll bet they had a high turn over rate of employees.
