I cleaned out cages from my SFH babies- then checked the bator- did the laundry-  checked the bator- cleaned the bathroom- checked the bator-  read 10 chapters in my book- checked many times- watched tv- checked again- bid on even more eggs (OMG!) and still checking the bator-  Now I've run out of stuff to occupy myself, except checking the bator... I would like to join in the feb hatch! I have Amerucanas, Marans, and BLRW due to hatch on the 9th from both my incubator and a broody hen! Candled and so far I have 11 for sure and 2 questionable ones that I can't see in.

I just finished up my first incubator hatch last night with my own barnyard mix, and ended up w 5/7. So exciting and nerve wracking!

Good luck everyone!

I just added one more egg from my girl who will have the mystery chicks.... mystery color at least :D Marked it so I'd remember not to give up on it at hatching since it'll be a day behind the rest. Got an even ten eggs now, 5 from each girl...I am pretty excited to see what I get this time around

As far as having the babies outside now, I'd say they should be just fine if they're with Mama hen..they'll play when they feel like it and cuddle under Moms wings when they're chilly.

I stayed up all night, & today- have not been to bed yet. Here's the latest- the egg that pipped yesterday evening went  over20 hours, she peeped, pecked & kept struggling but could not seem to get further. I was having a hard time seeing in the bator cause of high humidity- anyway I'll try to make a long story short- I discovered her problem was she had pipped the shell in the bottom middle of the egg (the WRONG, pointy end!) And b/c she had struggled w/o being able to go further w/ her zip, her membrane was paper white, and crispy- dried out where it was exposed. I could not take it anymore, I slowly picked away the shell, but the more I picked away I kept finding dry membrane. Over the next couple of hours I continued to pick away shell & membrane- bless her heart she was so excited to be able to move! I put her back in the bator, hoping she would dry but finally I took her out a while ago and put her in a small box, with felt on the bottom and put my brinsea brooder thingy in the box. I just checked and she is dry now, & talking up a storm to me ya.gif   She seems strong & perfectly healthy- she just had the misfortune of getting scrambled around during the egg shipment I guess. I still ca't figure out how she survived, & btw the air cell was in the correct place-  I have been calling her my "Sugar Peeps" love.gif     And still nothing has happened with the other 5 eggs yet. At this point considering I had to open the bator to help her out, and then knowing how she was lodged upside down- I am thinking I waiting until tonight, if still nothing from the other's I might candle them to see if I can tell anything. I don't even hear them peep or anything like I could hear her.... I just knew that she was alive & beginning to fade- so I know I risked the other's but I did what I had to do.... I hope they will make it.

All of my eggs are Serama, but five of them are from a pullet who was with a tricolor mottled cockerel until about 10 days ago (I found him a new home) and then I put my little black silkied boy in with her. The color is what will be mysterious until hers are hatched. The other five should look like the two chicks I posted... exchequer down pattern (penguin looking black and white)

That's what I had to do too Roxanne. I actually wrote down all the breeds I wanted and the list was too long so I had to cut it down. I am down to 15 breeds...lol. Thank goodness it takes them awhile to grow up so that they can all be is the grow out pen together while I build all the tractors for them.

Welcome to all the new chicken buddies for this month. It's good to see some familiar names.
