If you decide to swap for egg cartons be sure to cut the bottoms off (beter air flow to the egg) and trim down the tops so the chicks cam wiggle if they need to.

Good luck!

Chocolate

I have never used the turner in lock I have used egg cartons ...

Someone did say awhile back  a chick got its leg caught in  the turner while others were hatching so I think an egg carton with the bottoms cut out as Chick said .. would be better for you

.No danger of a problem .Lockdown is stressful enough!.

If your temp was very close to 99.5 the whole hatch(VERY CRITICAL)  and your humidity around 30-40 and lock 65 It probably wasnt you

Sometimes if your eggs are shipped you dont have a good hatch at all... Keep trying eventually you will get some

%on shipped is low 25-50%  usually Sometimes zero.!!

I know it happens to me  too...but i keep buying eggs from ppl far way i cant find here  and hope for a few.

.Its a BIG  gamble though Local  or your own is best.85-90% hatch

GOOD LUCK!!frow.gif

Well my little silkie egg is progressing right along, this is the 1 marked 'white', I can hear it peeping- quite LOUDLY too! Poor baby it's ready to get out of that egg. The shell is cracked and pieces have chipped off, but the inner membrane does not look to be torn yet. I can see it pushing against the membrane tho. This is so exciting- however everyone else, including the dogs went to bed hours ago LOL- I am intending to stay up to watch the progress caf.gif They think I am crazy... Nothing from the other 5 eggs yet. I did candle 1 last time b/f lockdown, all looked good- guess they are just taking thier time.

Oh & I won the mar. basque eggs I was bidding on, they are on the way- then I got a wild hair & am bidding on some call duck eggs too wee.gif Never had ducks b/f but the little calls looked so cute, I can't resist!

PUG

anybody can start one .. No authorization...Just go to " new thread"  at the bottom here...and  click on New Thread.

Now Brook is organized and put the names of all the hatchers at the beginning of hers but i am not organized enough   to do that so mine just sort of roll   along on their own. .Sometime we are on a few that others started too. FINE.

I am concerned that she is not standing- is this normal? She kind of scoots all around the box. It's been so many years since I've had hatchlings, and I've never had a silkie hatchling so I don't know what to really expect. Oh and I did try to candle the other 5 eggs. No movement or sound. They never pipped or anything. So I opened them and just got soooo upset! everyone was dead, shrink wrapped! It actually looked like 2 of them must have died on day 18 after lockdown or right before. The other 3 were all like Sugar Peeps, upside down-and all fully formed & had even absorbed the yolk sacs! Looks like they were just stuck & while I was helping save Sugar Peeps they died- I am telling you I am sick over it. When I saw how she was I should have just went on & opened up the shells in them to see if I could help them.... Let me know about how long it should take for my little Peeps to stand up on her own- my nerves can't take all this hide.gif

Pug

Sorry i didnt get back was reading last night and  to bed early  it should take a few hours ..One i had last time  couldnt get up  at all..but later was walking fine !

.if she doesnt take a look at her legs..Are her feet and legs facing the right direction  and seem normal ?MY own observation ......lot of them have foot or leg issues if you have to help them..not all though

If she does she needs to have a brace etc...within the first 3 days for it to correct itself.

Well dont kick yourself

i know i have done the same ..and you feel so bad. but you never know if or when you should help or even sometimes why they died.

Yes could be shrink  but who knows.Just watch your humidity next time and dont open during lock  unless you have it way up . thats all you can do,

.My last hatch i had 2 or 3 looked good but no sound  etc on day 23 but one hatched the day before...so ipitched them day 23.. a day later after they were trashed i though why didnt you  open and look?Founfd out the pother day my bator temp is too low at the grill .!!

Maybe they were late! JEEZ DUMB!  I didnt because it was cold out and i was afraid opening in the house if one was rotten it would smell the house up.. Anyway ill never knowsad.png

Welcome to all the new chicken buddies for this month. It's good to see some familiar names.
