That's right. Thanks for answering. Very docile, winter layer, easy to sex about 2-3 weeks old as they males and females feather out so differently.
Thank you. I love the look and hearing they are docile, winter layers etc. makes them more tempting. Maybe in the future I can afford some eggs or maybe a couple young ones.

Hi Papa Brooder,

I was wondering what your opinion of the Swedish Flower Hen and Cream Legbars are with regard to their disposition? How are your roosters of each breed--friendly, aloof, easy, hard to handle etc. I am interested in adding some different varieties in to my flock and I've been curious about these two breeds before they were available in the US! My daughter's fav is her Faverolles. Are they at all similar to them personality-wise or can you comare them to another standard breed?

I am also wanting to use a broody, but am not sure when one will decide to set her eggs. Is it possible to give you a general time frame (like June) and then get a specific week when they make up their minds to participate?! Thanks for your help!

I love both breeds. You just can't beat the autosexing of the cream legbars AND blue eggs. They have good feed/egg conversion ratio. They are a medium sized bird so a bit small to eat the extra roos, although I have eaten a few of ours. :) They are quite curious and I find them easy to handle and they are simply beautiful. If you check my profile and go to my facebook page, you can see a new picture I just put up of one of my roos.

SFHs are also amazing. my favorite thing about them is the variety of colors you can get in one flock making it easy to "name" and enjoy them as unique individuals within a flock. They have been excellent layers for me and extra roos are certainly big enough to make the dinner table if so desired. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy the variety in this flock. again, I don't have any trouble handling them. I really have mostly only raised heritage and rare breeds so harder for me to compare except to what I have. I just have a pair of faverolles so they seem mellow but haven't had a flock of them to really enjoy like my legbars and SFHs.

As far as sending the eggs... yes general time frame does work as long as the hens on this end are cooperating as well. :) There are a lot of variables but if you are willing to pay for the eggs then I will put on you the calendar and we can work out fine details as broodies permit. And then I will keep that in mind as orders start to come in. My preference is to pick a specific date so I can put it on the calendar and plan accordingly as I get other requests. Of course, we can move it around based on broodies. :)

Papa Brooder,
I forgot to ask you what size on average (in grams if possible) the CL and the SFH lay? The SFH are reportedly good winter layers, have you found this to be the case?
