Rooster Question?

I am seeking stories about roosters who have gone a long time being gentle with their hens and who suddenly rip a hen's comb?

Has anyone had an experience where your rooster accidentally injured a hen, and it was just a one-time experience?  What exactly happened?  What time of year did it occur?  How old was the rooster when this happened?

Or has anyone had a rooster do fine until about 16 months of age and then suddenly become mean to the hens?  How did it start out, and how did it progress?

Thanks in advance for everyone's rooster stories.

Rooster generally do not just get mean to hens.  I have had roosters that would launch a full blown attack against hens not of their harem.  On rare occasions when hen within his harem gets sick, rooster will attack sick hen.  This particularly evident when hens suffer some sort of visual impairment.
