what's up with my hen screaming/crowing?

One of my almost year old black star hens has recently taken to doing something between a scream and a crow

Besides being a sex link and I've seen her laying eggs in sure she's a hen so what gives and how can I get her to cut it out. .. The neighbors aren't likely to be too fond of that behavior!

We did lose our alpha-type hen a short while ago... Could this mean she's the new leading lay and it's some sort of dominance thing? ?

It's sporadic not as constant as a roo sounds like Gaaaaggghhh!
She's not in the nesting area or coming from laying an egg when she does it

At  times, my hens become rather vocal with the egg song.  Perhaps this is a variant of that.

It does sound as if that she has become or trying to become the dominate one. Some hens that become the dominate do try to crow.  They might  continue for a while and then stop or keep  going till they lose the top spot.  A hen's crow rarely is as good as a roosters.
