Geese and predators

It seems that around here, my predators are mostly airborn. I had a bald eagle attack my ducks this last weekend but luckily I didn't lose anyone. We have since covered the duck yard with bird netting for a visual barrier. The eagle has been back a couple of times but so far is too lazy to mess with the netting. I have two full grown embdens and I don't know if it will try for them or not. It isn't feasible to cover their yard as it hugs the corner of our house so I hope it will leave them alone.

wildpeas don't want to scare you but I saw a video [very upsetting], where a falcon took down a Canada Goose, when your girls are out keep an eye to the sky because Eagles are much larger than a falcon.

I once saw a pair of Bald Eagles feeding on a snow goose. Working as a pair they are surely able to kill a goose.

Geese can be taken down by foxes as well as ducks, chickens or whatever else birds you can have. I know that peacocks can be taken down as well. But have a funny story about when I had peacocks. One day I seen a fox running like a bat out of hell and behind it were 3 of my peacocks chasing that nasty fox!!! I have a great dane that enjoys chasing the foxes. Now not sure if she would chase coyotes or not?

Very true (and so very funny about your peacocks)!

Hawks are the main problem for our geese. We put them in at night and have a huge enclosed picket fence around their home. However, we had a beautiful lone 30 lb Pomeranian male goose together with a wiley rabbit buddy in another uncovered pen, that got killed but not eaten, by a huge hawk. Chickens so far are fine as their pen is covered.

I'm sorry for your loss...and

Welcome to BYC!

the gander just 2 days ago is the predator, I had a turkey vulture i named birdie living in my attic 7 months. We rigged wire around the gutters and he must have lost a wing all we can figure. We had a gander my addict son robbed it was light blue black chin strap never saw even a picture like he was and no other marks he put him in the attic. we heard foot steps we are in a ranch house but every time we went up NOTHING O how dumb we never even thought ferral he was up there a total of one year and we were sitting in the yard after my hubby put sand on wood and a huge footprint a gander he came out from under the shingles flew north then south to show himself to us I believe but never came out. you could set your watch by him ten til 8 he would come "home" he slept outside in the pond they took him from. i looked for other light blue but not til yesterday. the vulture was sleeping and the Gander grabbed him by the throat it went on right over me I hit the ceiling with a pole I keep there and it stopped I knew birdie was hurt I didnt hear anything else but I know vultures are very quiet when they are going to attack and they did and killed him. the 2nd one in a year and turkey vultures are all over you must watch that is the predator of each other. the reason the vultures kill them then pack the bodyin my insulation is when they have chicks they need the down to cover them I don't know why but we just bought a small camper because all these birds bring other critters my birdie was good he killed and ate all even rats come up there we went up to try to clean after Lufa the blue goose they hide the poop under the 1st layer of insulation I just don't know what to do. The 1st gander Lufa had his mate up there and all the chicks were dead I don't get it. Vultures took them for lunch. One night while he was gone his lifetime mate attacked her neck too but that female did in fact sing a short swan song. Made some kind of call twice she died he was back. We know this we had a camcorder up there and it was freezing what saved us from rotting til vultures got there Lufa loved her he would bang on her beak and he carried the dead body for a week until it was bare I don't know where it went, I just saw feathers from her when I put my white N95 outfit on and went to look I saw him eyes open in the insulation but no birdie I know they eat each other from the colon I know the smell well. That is your predatores. Anyone help with getting rid of them. I had a new roof put on steel drip edge around the entire house and still they get in. The squirrels stopped they were getting eaten every day its the waste we are worried about. I have spent and exterminators are a waste of money if its ferral and they are so?????HELP HELP WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO LEAVE HERE.

what about ferrets, rats etc. I got geese and I expect them to be loyal pets for 20 years, so keep them in a half acre fenced areas and like my wife they cannot stay out at night .My country neighbor has a white non tufted geese, she is a run away to his house , she lives free night and day for several years , holes in under the porch, she guards his house , nothing happened to her. Yet I owe it my pet geese to not to take chances. I will watch them during the day, and lock them at night in a secure pen
