Hello all! Just ordered a jumbo Pekin from Metzers Farm. I chose the jumbo because for temperament it said "very calm." This afternoon though I came across a discussion with many people saying not to get the jumbos for pets? Because of leg issues? Does anyone have any experience or any advice? Was thinking about calling on Monday and seeing if I could switch to the smaller guys if it seems to be the common recommendation. Thoughts? Thanks everyone!
I have an 8 week old "jumbo" Pekin I received from Ideal (she was supposed to be a "regular" Pekin). I have not had any leg issues. She walks kind of stilt legged but can keep up with the other 6 I have. She doesn't seen any calmer than the regular Pekins she is just very talkative.
I'd say try it, just be prepared for how large she/he will get. I know even at 8 weeks she is larger than my other 2 adult Pekins which are about 1 year old.
The "jumbo", if that is what she is, is in the back standing by the black ducks. This was about 2 weeks ago. She isn't a pure white. I was told that a Jumbo doesn't get the real white until their 2nd molt. We'll see.
