East TN

Thought it would be good to have a place for us to share pics about our little side of the mountain. I hope we can have a good time, make friends and just chatter on about life in East TN.

I will start by saying I want this to be a place where everyone is free to express their opinions & possibly learn from one another. We may not all agree but I think we can agree to keep it light. I also think emergencies and health issues would best be suited for the Emergency and Disease thread.

I will start this off by introducing myself. I am a wife/mother and we share our home with many types of animals. We have dogs, cats, fish and of course, chickens. I have my chickens as pets and do not have any intentions of breeding, showing or selling. I am currently trying to get a nice backyard flock of bbs LF Orpingtons and also have a small flock of 10-12: EEs and BCM (I think they are mixes).

I think I am going to try to incubate some eggs this spring to help with my Orps but if I get a broody she will most definitely get the job!

So how about pulling up a chair and sitting a spell?

Hello there East Tennessee. We live in the Halls area of Knoxville. I hope to meet and get to know more people raising chickens in our area. We have raised ducks in the past but now we want to raise chickens. We are leaning heavily toward the Plymouth Rocks. We have started our coop and hope to find some quality Rocks in the near future.

Hello! Rocks are a staple favorite of mine, as well. Every layer flock should have at least one, if you ask me. Personally I like the nostalgic Barred... but if you find a source of silver penciled, please let me know. I like the Columbian too... but if I go looking for them, I'll end up with more birds than I know what to do with! LOL!

We have had BR in the past but they were hatchery stock. I don't know anyone personally who raises them but I am sure you will be able to find some. If you haven't already found it here's a thread on byc: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/273471/plymouth-rock-thread and maybe: http://showbirdbid.com/coppermine/rockclub/index.php will help you locate a quality breeder. Thanks for stopping by and let us know how your search turns out. Good luck!

btw: Pleas do not tell tnchickenut where to find anymore chickens!

(just kidding)

Moved chickens around today. Got the EE pullets out of the Orp pen and into a more secure pen. I know I said I would always depend on a broody hen but I really want to hatch some chicks off my Orps. So I am considering a small incubator.

If I am successful then I will culling heavy come fall.

Saying Hi from Greeneville. We use to have an East TN thread but I guess it got shut down. I am not on much as I am very busy. I raise Partridge Rocks here. We have plans to hatch out for oursvles only this year to replace stock. TSC right now is selling chicks. I guess for V day but they say ealry spring sale. There are many chicken raisers here in ETN on BYC. Hopefully they will come out now you have this going.

from Jefferson county and thanks for stopping by. I ordered an incubator today to try to hatch some chicks. We are only trying to hatch for ourselves too.

Yes, I think the E. TN thread has been shut down; too bad because I enjoyed it.
