Ok so we have 8 eggs incubating for the last 22 days. The humidity is up to 65-80 throughout the lockdown period but they are still not pipping or peeping. We have candled and 4 out of the 8 look promising. Should this be taking as long as it is for them to hatch? By the way, this is our first time incubating and hatching eggs!!! Any advice is much appreciated.

hiya , they are a little late, but can hatch into the 22nd/ 23rd day if the temperature has been low through out. when you say you candled them what did you see, when ready to hatch they are solid black with a large air space dropping to one side, and if a chick has internally pipped you can see a shadow waving about and can usually hear them cheeping, if they have died for one or more reasons, it is usually quite difficult to tell unless you have looked at it many times, but even then you still hope, let me know how you get on , leave alone for a day or 2 just to make sure there not late

Ok Thank you. We candled on day 18 and the ones we think are going to hatch just look black like you said. Kinda scary because we dont really know what to expect. Thanks again for your help

My wife is going to. She let them cool first so they wouldn't smell bad. I am out of town and can't really help her. Guess we will try again sometime. We now have a little white hen that is broody and won't move of her golf balls LOL...We may try to see if she can hatch them out for us. I will let you guys know when she opens up the eggs as it should be soon.

Welll, one of the eggs did make it to the later stage of development but did not hatch. My wife did crack them open and it looked like 3 or 4 of them were starting to develop and then died. Thanks for the intrest in the eggs. We now have a broody hen that we might try to get to hatch them for us as we may leave it up to nature and let chickens do what they do best. Thanks and have a good day!!!
