What to feed chickens to lay more eggs.

Hey newbie here. Just wondering what little things I could do throughout the day to help my chickens lay some more eggs, and thats' reasonable. Thanks for any responses! Any help is better than what I'm doing now!

High protien layer feed will help in egg production. I feed 22% layer feed in my feeder and toss a cup of 16% 13-way scratch in the run it a mix of grains corn peas sunflower seeds and oats. I have 5 hens and average 4 eggs a day.

Now many hens and pullets do you have and how many eggs does your flock produce each and every day, day in and say out?

With a good laying breed of young hens and an 16-18% laying ration any LONG TERM "extra" food items will result in a SLIGHT reduction in egg production.

4 eggs a day from 5 hens is over 1,450 eggs annually or more than 120 dozens of eggs per year. Considering that only 150 years ago the typical FREE RANGE FLOCK only produced about 7 dozens of eggs per year per hen jedgeworth's egg production is a goodly amount of production. However nothing but a younger flock will drastically improve jedgeworth's egg production and not by over a few dozens of eggs per year at that.

About a cubic inch of raw beef liver every other day to each hen is all the supplemental feeding that I would consider. Anyway, the true purpose of treats is to salve the sole of the chickens' keeper by allowing them to pat themselves on the back and say what a good boy (or girl) am I.

I'm thinking now it's just because it's super cloudy/rainy and theres like not enough daylight……. I've thought grass might helped, but today I've checked and from what I saw because I have 3 hens constantly laying in the nesting box I think I might have as of right when I checked 20 minutes ago like 10. So I guess its just because its winter, daylight, and cloudiness.

The daylight starts getting longer after the Winter Equinox Since the Spring is the season for hens to lay and produce young it should not surprise any of you that daylight has a positive impact on egg production. If this was not so then you may well celebrate Christmas or Thanksgiving with a roast baby chick.

What about adding calcium? When the egg shells are too soft the hens can't lay eggs. Oyster shells or crushed limestone always works for us.

Actually, calcium wont make them lay or even lay better.
Hen will lay weather they have proper calcium or not, if there not getting proper calcium they just lay soft shell or even no shell eggs but they will continue to lay eggs.

does that proportion sound right? 6qt feed 12oz bean meal? To get higher than 16% protein. Making sure before I mix a bucket of it. They seem to like this new feed so far, very finely made.

If your using a 16% protein feed and a 40% protein Whole Roasted Soybean (WRSB) and you mix 9 lbs of feed to 1 lbs of WRSB you'll get a end feed that is ± 18% protein.
