After all of our hardwork and effort to keep the "real" predators out of the run, now we're having a problem with chipmunks!! The darn little ones keep squeezing through the chicken wire to get the chick feed. They won't come in the run when the chicks are out, and they haven't gotten in the coop, yet. How can I get rid of these pesky chipmunks?

Thanks, Sonja

A box trap should do the trick, one for small animals so your chickens cant get in, but if all else fails... shoot them with a BB gun or .22 rifle. Hopefully you wont have to use the gun.

Hope I helped some

They are welcome in our coop........but if you dont like em, get a cat. My mother got a cat and her chippy's disappear

Maybe if you try to not hate them, you will find they are quite cute.

Aah! Chip n Dale! I have some issues with squirrels and I catch and relocate them with have a heart traps....always work...I've heard squirrels can't resist oreos...a surprising number of chipmunks are endangered species

so please try to use the traps....you can relocate them to my property anytime. Animal Control will usually be able to lend you a trap.... the squirrels throw tantrums and make the LOUDEST sounds when they are caught!!!!

Fill a gallon milk jug FULL of water.when you see a chipmonk go in a hole tip the jug upside down over the hole. the chipmonk will shoot up in the jug and drown. They might be qute but the cause a lot of damage. I pop them with the .22 also. shooting is great sport And gets rid of nasty rodents.

Do the chipmunks eat that much feed?

Are the feeders hanging or are they on the ground? Do the chipmunks jump up into them?

Why not move all your feeders into the coop?

You could try one of those plastic owls. They will work on chipmunks if you move it around a bit. I don't know how your chickens will like it though.

The chipmunks won't go in the coop, they don't like the chickens. I do put out a small pan of food when the chickens are out, so as soon as everyone takes their midmorning snooze in the coop in come the chipmunks to see what left. Will they hurt the chickens?
