Darn Chipmunks!!!

No they wont do anything. The chipmunks are afraid of their own shadow. I watched one this morning looking around for a treat and it was ready to run at all times.

They will not hurt the chickens directly. They can carry rodent diseases. I dunno how many of these diseases affect chickens but many affect people. Chipmunks like rats and squirrels will chew wires and can cause property damage and fires. I used to see dozens a day but luckily the neighbors cat thinned them down.

Are people on here actually advocating shooting and drowning chipmunks? My God.

I use tamper proof bait boxes with chunx bait. Those are safe to put right in the run with the chickens. Been using them for years. No explosions of rat or furry tailed rats (squirrels and chipmunks) populations anymore. Saves on feed when your not feeding the wildlife and allowing massive populations of rodents that will get into your house come fall. It gets ugly quick and I'm a huge fan of tamper proof boxes with chunx bait. The bait comes in gallon containers. You'll find good deal on eBay for two boxes and then find the bait. I use Tomcat chunx in dark green.

The trouble with chipmunks is that they're so darn cute. They can be destructive, though, & carry disease. Right now in Yosemite, they've had to close some campgrounds due to plague, with one confirmed case. Cute little deer mice carry the hanta virus. Sometimes they just gotta go.
