Yet another broody question.

yeahhhhh!!!! Congratulations!!! Please post pics so I can drool and dream of getting broodies soon...

Just one suggestion... I've never fed medicated feed to the chicks reared by their moms - and never had any problems with coccidia. They will build their immune system with all the scratching and pecking around, walking on mom's poop, etc, so you may reconsider giving medicated feed...

I have to go to TSC to get some feeders! AHHH, my feeder has gone missing. I'm going to point the finger to my husband because he didn't know what it was probably. haha.
I also need a bigger bag of feed, I think she hatched out most of the chicks, if not all. I've seen 3 so far. I hear lots of cheeping too! They all appear to be under her wing hiding. They are SO cute! I can't wait to see colors.

Could I get a bag of medicated feed and a bag of non medicated feed and mix them together? Would that be okay? I don't really know what to do about food, I've always heard that medicated was the way to go; but it is also a personal preference.
I plan on all of them eating chick starter, hen and roo included.

Oh speaking of roosters. Should I separate him from her and the chicks? I only have the rooster and the hen, so his focus is solely on her. Will he hurt the chicks? He seems pretty protective of the hen and the chicks right now, but I'm scared he might hurt them. Do you guys leave the roos with your girls and babies?

Here are the pictures I just got of the babies. I can see three and I think there are more under her, I'm hearing a lot of cheeping.
So I think color wise I have two splashes, which are the yellow ones and then one black one. Hopefully I get some light blues out of the rest of them!

I think they're absolutely precious!

Oh they are precious!!!

how many hatched?

As for your questions, I understand you have this hen and one rooster? Not sure how he will handle the situation. I have two roosters for 24 hens, so even when one or two go broodie, there's still plenty of hens for the roosters to mate.

The broodies usually do not let the rooster mate, so in you situation, having only one hen and her being broodie, I woild be concerned on how he'll react. I personally would let them together but would keep a close watch and isolate the hen and brood if the rooster becomes aggressive. But this is a risky situation. You may be more comfortable just separating them.

As for feed, I don't give mine medicated feed, but if I did, then I'd follow the instructions on the feed as for quantities and length of time to use the feed.

Good luck!!!

The rooster has actually done really well, he's been quite gentle with the babies and the hen.

I counted six today but i feel like there are more. There were fifteen eggs, so hopefully as many chicks. I'll get a better idea tomorrow.

As for the feed, i got some dumor non-medicated. I still have like half a bag of the manna pro medicated so I'll feed that for a few days until its fine then transition over to the new stuff.
