My hen is almost a year old now and I just discovered today that she is nesting on a few eggs. Not sure how many at this point. This will be my first batch of chicks. Anything I should know? Also how will I know if the eggs are fertilized? I don't have an incubator so she'll be the one keeping them warm. Any tips will be appreciated! She is a frizzle cochin and the daddy is a silkie. I'm soooo excited!!!

Nothing you need to do. Mom will do it all.

You'll know the eggs are fertilized when they hatch.
Unless you wanna know sooner, then you can candle them after about 10 days of weeks of incubation.

Some good broody hen info HERE.

It's wonderful to have broody hens!!!

It seems as if they NEVER get off the nest; however, if you watch long enough, you'll hear her begin to make a funny clucking noise as she emerges from her broody stupor and she'll get off the nest and go frantically scratching away in the ground. She'll deposit the most enormous poop you've ever seen, scratch some more, eat, drink and then make her way back to the nest.
