Whizbang Plucker - Page 2

According to the Whizbang Chicken Plucker FAQ, the answer is 'Not without modifications' -- softer, thinner fingers, and more of them on the bottom plate.  So you can't use one plucker for both, you'd need separate ones.

Also have a look at the Featherman Gamebird plucker:  http://www.featherman.net/pluckers.html#gamebird

Nope.......doesn't work for quail (I tried it).  I was trying to think of a design for quail using a 5 gallon bucket.  I think I'd make it just like the Whizbang, just on a smaller scale.  I also think I would make it so it sits on a table top.

I was thinking that too.  Maybe a smaller motor also.  Would those same fingers still work on a quail?

I have a whizbang. I also have a Featherman Gamebird Plucker. The Gamebird fingers are softer, shorter and much, much more numerous. There is no comparison between the whizbang and the Featherman. To channel Ferris Bueller, "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up." Everything about butcher day changed when that Featherman plucker came into my life. To make your whizbang a little more tolerable, you should add a tensioner pulley. I wouldn't pluck a quail though. I just wouldn't do it.

The problem I've found is you can't find the Featherman Gamebird fingers anywhere.  It would be nice to just buy one, but I don't have that kind of money and I can easily build one myself for much cheaper.

They sell the fingers on their web site.  Looks like a decent price.

Does anyone have suggestions on where to get the barrel? I know at one time they offered on the whizbang site a piece of plastic that you could wrap around instead of the barrel but every time I visit his site he's sold out on the plastic sheet. The motor, I figure one of the big box farm supply or building supply stores would have some. I saw he lists the parts you need to get from the hardware store (nuts and bolts etc.) and the stuff you can get from him (feather plates fingers etc.) but he does not list the sizes of lumbar needed to build the frame, is it listed in his book???

We bought the barrel, rubber fingers, and instruction book on eBay and the book listed everything needed and how to put it together, very helpful smile.png

I watched some youtube videos of people putting their whizbang together.  I think you could easily use one of those blue plastic barrels used to store water.  Also, I think regular 2x4's would work fine for the wood.  It doesn't look complicated to build.
