What to do with newly hatched chick

Our hen is sitting on eggs (our first time and hers) in a coop of 3 hens and one cockerel.

I dont know when they are due to hatch as i dont know when she started sitting! The shells are really thick and dark so cant see much, but i think they are all fertile as i can only see an air bubble at one end.

So, when they hatch, will they be ok in the main coop for now? She is not being bothered at all by the others and is quite happy, so prefer not to move her.

When they hatch i will move her and the chicks to a run of their own (provided i dont have to move them before that?). But will they be ok outside without a heat lamp? Or do i need to move them inside?

If imove them inside, will the hen stay with them, or should she go back with the others?

And if i am best keeping them outside, do i need a heat lamp? And hence, a differents place for them and the hen?

It if between -5 and +5 degrees C with us just now.

I would say move the chicks inside with a heatlamp . I am sure if you leave her outside with them she would protect them but that's a chance you have to take.

I will move them inside with a heat lamp. BUt will the hen mind me taking her chicks away? Will she not try and mother them?
 
Hello

My hens hatch their own chicks every year. Last year they each hatched out 3 sets of them we had chicks comoing out of our ears haha. Most hens make wonderful mothers. My rooster helps with the chicks, but this is unashual. Your rooster might try to hurt them but the mom will protect them. You need to put a baby chicken waterer were the peeps can reach it and spread food for them. There mother will take care of them. It is a wonderful thing to watch. Lisa

 
Lisa, it looks a lot warmer in your photos than it is here! haha. If it was summer, i would not be so concerned. But my worry is if they will be warm enough given it is not rising above 5 degrees C.

I would love for the hen ro raise them in a run of their own. But just concerned about the temp....
 
My hen raised hers outside(in the coop of course).
In late January.
They are doing great.
We have a (closet) made of wire in the corner so they are only separated from the flock by wire
Put a big box with hardware cloth on top down on one end so we could put red heat lamp above and the group is doing well.
After 3 weeks they just needed the closet -a heat lamp, and mama.
We have thick shavings for bedding.
 
My silkie hen hatched her first egg this morning. This is our first time with this. Have been reading up on it but still unsure. She is in the big hen house with other hens and roosters. They have not bothered her while she has been broody. I have another smaller house that has 14 baby chicks about a week old in it. Should I take the chick out or move them both to the small house or leave them alone? Wiil the mama hen be ok with the other 14 babies in there if I move them ?
