My Dearest Darling Husband,

http://www.tractorsupply.com/know-h...ken-crossed-the-road-chicken-coop-design.html

I would like to build this coop. Well, of course when I say "I" I mean we, or more probably, you. However, I am sure I could contribute in many ways such as: unsolicited advice-giving, general well-wishing, constant status-checking, and of course my eternal love and devotion to my sweet husband who puts up with my poultry obsession. There are several reasons why I favor this coop design over the plethora of others I have perused; and I'm sure you will agree with me. In no particular order they are as follows:

  1. This coop is moveable which is desirable in our situation. I figured we (again, you) could come up with a run design that will detach and reattach.
  2. This coop can house up to 15 birds so, when the inevitable hapens and we get a rooster and, subsequently, chicks, we will be able to expand our flock.
  3. This coop utilizes "poop trays" that slide out for easier cleaning. 'Nuff said.
  4. I was able to read through and and actually comprehend the design and building process for this coop. This of course maximizes my potential for the unsolicited advice giving as mentioned above.
  5. I can think of many pretty colors to paint it. The kids favor purple.

Finally, I do hope you agree with me as to the suitability of this coop for our needs and that you, upon the occasion when our finances will allow, will embark upon this Canterberry Chicken Project with as much hope and good cheer as I feel while I dwell upon it constantly.

Your loving wife,

Rebecca Winifred Canterberry, C.C.C.O (certifiably chicken coop obsessed)

Mhmm, my husband told me i had to build my own coop. Build it yourself, its way more fun. This way you dont have to harass him about getting it done at certain time and certain way

None of that "Dearest Darling" stuff worked with my husband. I was reading chicken books, looking at pictures of chickens, talking about what type coop I wanted and when I needed it. This went on for over a year and nothing. ZIP!

Then - last May - the month that holds both Mother's Day and my birthday - I was asked what I wanted as a gift. I hate to admit it, but I changed my tactic and "got grumpy".

My response was: "If it ain't clucking, I don't want it!" [Said with stern face and crossed arms.]

The coop wasn't finished by Mother's Day but it was well underway. Got my girls last June. Funny thing is, my husband enjoys them as much - if not more - than I do!

I guess I have it good! My husband has been building me a coop ice enough I'd like the design in my own home lol! He is a lot like me though being self sufficient is always a great thing! Times are tough and if you can raise your on food and enjoy it then why not!!!

I have to build my own....mainly because the tools would fly. He gets frustrated with putting furniture together. Plus i would be too worried that he does stuff wrong. I actually enjoy working with power tools. I guess being an Army wife gives you the DIY or it never gets done additude.

Go to TSC to buy the chicks without telling him. I did that. Then tell him you have a coop already picked out to buy. Hubby is a cheapskate.

I planned on getting chicks way before I bought them. Everything the breeds, the coop and etc. I wanted 15, but no one sold 15 that I knwe of at the time. I just went to tsc one day and bought 15 chicks. when the chicks were starting to fly around the brooder, he started building my coop. It's nice, but its too small for 15 chickens. Luckily, I had 7 roos I could get rid of.

Oh don't worry, he will build a coop. I just need to keep reminding him that I want it, well... yesterday! I have discovered that men are most susceptible to persuasion by means of total sweetness, cooking, and um, shall we say "feminine wiles?";)
