Hello there. We have a problem. Last night when I put up the chickens I counted and checked them all as I usually do. They are all standard birds except for two mille fleurs we pay special attention to, Camo and Flague. Well upon checking the chickens last night Camo had a large "bubble" coming from her butt. She was also leaking poop from her vent while her butt was pulsing. I checked her face and her eyes are very dark black (from brown), her comb is now pale and her beak is very pale compared to the rich yellow it usually is.

I isolated her from the flock and now she's in our dog crate on the front porch. When we brought her in we washed all the poop from her vent. The bubble shrunk back in by the time I had taken her from the coop to the house. We dried and dusted her with DE in case of mites (the chickens had red mites this past week and we treated them all with DE). We also put some honey on her vent just in case of prolapse issues. I placed her on a perch inside our dog crate on the front porch. She has layer feed with ground oyster shell and DE sprinkled on it and water with a dash of ACV.

This morning her poop reeks horrible as it still leaks from her butt. The poop looks completely normal below the perch but she has not moved from the perch I put in the dog crate for her last night. Her comb and beak are still pale and her eyes are very dark. Camo is very "docile" to the point I would call it lethargic. Flague is usually the lovey and Camo usually "doesn't do human" so this is very unusual for her.

Please help.

Edit: I checked all the other chickens and no apparent issues in any of them.

You need to treat the mites with a pyrethrn/permethrin product or Sevin 5% garden dust. You can get the former as "poultry dust" or "poultry spray" at feed stores, or as Adams flea and tick spray at WalMart or a vet, among other places. I don't know that this is the only thing wrong with this bird, but i do know lice/mites can kill a bird if the infestation is bad enough, and DE is not going to do the job.

Looking at her I don't see any mites like I did on some of the other chickens. The entire coop is covered in DE. I don't really feel comfortable spreading Seven dust, a poison the chickens could breathe in, all over the coop and run and especially on the girls. That's why we went with DE.

The DE is all over the coop, run, and in the food they eat.

Camo is finally off the perch (1pm) and came down to eat and drink. The brown seems to be coming back to her eyes but poop is still leaking from her vent and her vent is pulsing continuously. That's the update. :\

This is an updated picture. She was picking at her food. Her vent looks much better than it did yesterday when it had the huge bubble and blood.

Nevermind. As I was writing this post I heard squeals from the cage. When I checked on her I saw this:

The bubble became slightly larger but when we reached in to pick her out and clean her vent and put honey on her it contracted inside again.

Comments and thoughts?

id say its prolapse, try shrinking the tissue with hemmoroid cream replace the prolapse with the honey as you have been doing, it might take several tries. or you could go to the vet and get a purse suture to hold it in place. other than that possiably antibotics to reduce swelling and pervent infection. i wish you the best of luck.please keep us posted on her condition.
