Peacock Pheasant Questions

I saw those ads, but I do not want any right now. Need the right set-up first. Plus I know some people on here with them, and my local breeder.

That is Mel Royal.I bought my originals from him back in 2006.the greys are good size birds, but the palawans are tiny little things.I assume the germains are same size as greys, but I have not personally seen them, but hope to have them both some day.I do not provide heat for mine and they do great.Their pen has to be draft free and they will climatize as most pheasants will.

The Palawan Peacock Pheasant male, who was breeding age, did not seem smaller than the grey. But I think the grey was young... However the young palawan was tiny! The guy is just into peacock pheasants so not many breeders. It seems like the palawans and greys are nicer than the other types, but I have not looked at pictures of the other ones in a long time...

Don't waste your money on shipped eggs, they very rarely hatch thru the mail.If you can pick them up,by all means do it,it will be well worth the trip. There are a lot of breeders in N.Y.,but Gary Simpson in Norwich,Ron Ballard in Argyle, are the only ones listing grey peacock pheasants.Ron also has palawans.

Ron Ballard is a great guy, he's got good quality stock as well. I have co-bred with him in the past and have always been very happy with our outcomes. There is another breeder about an hour outside of Binghamton, but I do not have his permission to share his information right now.

Phezzybreeder. I like your avatar. Are you by any chance in NY? I have talked with Ron Ballard before. He said I could come to look at his birds. I really want to go someday, and maybe leave with some birds!

I am reviving this thread because my dream of having peacock pheasants may be turning into reality soon! Which peacock pheasants are the hardiest? I am currently considering Greys, Palawans, and Rothschild's. What are some pros and cons of those three types?

I will be getting a breeder pair of Greys in Septmeber. Here are pictures of them that I took this Saturday:

If you visit the My Pheasants thread you can see the other pictures from my trip to Sheldon McLaren's.

One question, how long can peacock pheasants live for? I believe that pair is five or six years old.
