|*Starting a Cricket Farm for my flock*|

I love the idea of giving the birds extra bugs, but there's a creep out factor for me here! I'm a wimp.

How do you feed crickets to the chickens? Do you just sort of let them out in the yard and let the chickens catch them? If that's the case do they ever fail and do you find yourself with too many crickets outside and trying to come in the house? I'm sorry if these are stupid questions.

In my case our chickens can't free range because of predators. We open up the container of crickets in their run. They don't last very long.

I tried them last year, for me they didn't reproduce that fast and smell pretty bad, it was better to order from the big companies.
Now I ma just growing roaches, meal worms and crawfish for the chickens and ducks.

Do be careful. Crickets may contain more than the nutrients that you listed. Crickets also may contain eggs from the many different internal parasites that infect chickens. I've raised crickets for fish bait and chicken laying pellets and a chick water fountain work well for a food source and a cricket drinking fountain.
