Lets see those favorite green been recipes mine are coming on strong now. I usually boil them hard with butter and salt. I also do alot of flash freezing for winter use.

I've heard of cooking with bacon. Any ideas?

I cook my green or yellow wax beans with Salt Pork or Bacon and a slice of onion....salt and pepper to taste

Salt Pork can also go by the name Saltside (Just a part of the pig that has been cured like Bacon or Ham)...

Start with a casserole dish, put in green beans and mix in a can of mushroom soup. Crumble french fried onion rings on top. Cover. Not sure how long to cook it, but just poke a bean for tenderness, then take of foil for a bit.

Bean salad.

cooked beans
diced onion
italian dressing
toss to coat and chill
Then eat!!!

As you can probably tell, I don't follow recipes, I just mix until it looks good

One of the first meals we have when the beans are ready is this one pot meal.
Put your washed, snapped green beans into a pot or dutch oven. Add chunked ham, onion and potatoes. Pour just a bit of chicken broth over this and cook until done. Every so often, stir and check if additional broth or water is needed.
I do this in our 6qt. Nesco roaster and it tastes great and doesn't heat up the kitchen. We had this 3 days in a row last week. YUM!

I recently came across a recipe for barbequed green beans. Has anyone tried it?

Yum Yum I think I know whats going in the crock pot tomorrow for dinner!

I like to cook my beans in salted water with a pinch of fresh grated nutmeg when trying to be healthy, or I cook, drain and saute in garlic oil the top with bread crumbs and parmesan cheese. For a real treat, coat with batter and deep fry....yummm!

This is about as strange as the salt pork is to me! We cook our string beans until just tender, add salt, pepper, butter (even butter buds) and milk. When you eat them, use a spoon and its sorta like a stew. YUMMMMMIE!

This will be fun to see our diverse dining menu of the common Green Bean!!...

Spook, your recipe is a first for me too!... lol

Slow simmer on the stove to desired tenderness adding either 1TB of bacon grease (DH's favorite) or my favorite...adding a beef bullion cube.

Crock Pot: 2 qts green beans, 1 ham hock, 4-6 med red potatoes, cover with water & forget about it till supper time.
Don't forget the cornbread!
