so i have no idea where she came from but it seems a chicken has adopted us. my chicks are 4 weeks old and i'm not sure if this older hen will bother them. they are in their coop/run and they don't really free range. I'm afraid to let her into the coop/run but last night she roosted on our deck.

what to do?

Personally, I'd feel sorry for her and allow her to stay. Any chance you can provide a separate area for her to be in while your other chicks grow up some? You could try allowing her to be with them while your right there to see what happens. I wouldnt leave her alone with them until their older, though.

She should be in "quarantine" in case she might have something icky you don't want your babies to get. Then if she seems ok, you got yourself another mouth to feed!

I wonder if she got dumped like people do with unwanted dogs and cats.
