What kind of nesting boxes do you use for your guineas? Mine have always free ranged and I would just go out and find the nest, this year I am keeping them in the coop. What kind of nesting box would be best?

Thanks!
Ashley

Guineas do not believe in nesting boxes, or at least most don't. My guineas that live in pens make a nest on the ground in the most hidden place they can find. We offer a few hiding places & they seem to appreciate that. Just remember it needs to be easy for you to access the nest. If you use a bunch of tree limbs to build a spot you may poke an eye out!

Ours a free range but we 'encourage' them to nest in our windbreak where the dog helps run off predators. If you have them in a fenced in area they will nest under a board leaned against a coop or barn.

WOW! I am impressed! I want to add to my chickens...I like the ones you have. I have mallard ducks I have raised, and
have a fish feeder on our acre pond, and they stay. We have a floating dock with 10 covered nesting boxes. I am still trying
to figure out guineas, and wondering if we could raise a few small goats.

My new girls just quit laying on the floor of the coop & are laying in the nest boxes. I left many eggs in the box last year, but then my last girls were killed, so nothing ever happened. Going to start letting them in as of today to see if they will keep laying in there. Guess there's always a chance they would hatch in there! Nice pictures Tommygreenco!

Tom, I forget.. did these Hens free range at all, or were they mainly kept penned for the breeding season? Just curious, cuz my 3 yr old Hens that were kept in until they laid every day for their first season of egg laying, preferred to return to the coop for their 2nd laying season, and now are doing the same thing for yr 3 to lay their eggs. I love it tho, saves me the daily egg hunts!
