Guinea Nesting Boxes...

GUINEAS WILL NEED TO BE CONTAINED FOR AT LEAST A MONTH WHEN MOVED TO A NEW HOME. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE HIM PENNED FOR AT LEAST A MONTH, HE SHOULD STAY AROUND IF THERE ARE OTHER BIRDS. I HAD ONE MALE ALONE WHILE WAITING FOR MY KEETS TO BE OLD ENOUGH TO ADD AND HE WOULD TAKE OFF, BUT THEN COME BACK. WHEN HE WAS WITH THE KEETS, I COULDN'T GET HIM TO LEAVE!
NOT SURE IF YOU WILL GET THEM TO LAY ON HAY AND SHAVINGS. MOST HAVE DIFFERENT PREFERENCES TO LAYING THAN CHICKENS. THEY LIKE TO LAY OUTSIDE IN TALL GRASS AND WILL HIDE MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO FIND THEM AND VULNERABLE TO PREDATORS. THOSE WHO HAVE HAD LUCK WITH THEM LAYING INSIDE USUALLY HAVE SET UP PRIVATE AREAS AND A COMMUNAL NESTING AREA LIKE A WHEELBARROW. THEY ARE CLOSER TO WILD BIRDS THAN DOMESTICS WHEN IT COMES TO LAYING AND GOING BROODY.

We have a new set of guineas from last year that we have not let outside because we lost our older guineas last year to cats. I started putting their eggs in a tire in the coop area where they sleep and where the chickens nest boxes are. Today I went in and there are 15 eggs in the tire. My problem after reading is that I put the tire underneath the nesting boxes. I am going to try putting a board up to hide the tire and make it more secluded. As of right now no one is sitting on the eggs.
