Hi everyone! I am new to this site and was interested in getting some chicks. I would like to teach my children some responsibility and to have some fresh eggs. However, my town, East Fishkill, Dutchess County, N.Y., will only allow you to have a chicken with a minimum of 10 ACRES!!!. After reading about some of the large cities which allow chickens (NYC), I was shocked that my rural suburban town has this restriction. I was wondering if there are any other residents out there who are trying to change this or are willing to join me in doing so, Also, does anyone out there have any experience in attempting to change a town ordinance? I live in an area with 1 acre lots and really can't see how this would be an issue. Thanks.
Change East Fishkill Ordinance

Hi I also live in East Fishkill. I would like to see this ordinance changed as well. In fact there was a town board "work group" in July where the zoning and planning board all met and they touched on this topic. I think this will be ripe for change because so many people who live in EF currently have chickens on one acre. I would love to meet with you and get a grass roots going to change it.
