Its been some time since I have been on here. I check in every now and then. Well this week I found out I have prostate cancer. Ive been going to the Drs for over 2 months now. I found out back in Jan that I was diabetic and now this cancer. I don't know what stage I am yet. I had a bone scan done yesterday. There were some high lighted spots on it. Im hoping I don't have bone cancer. I go next week to talk with the Dr to see if my prostate will be removed, I do treatments or both. He has mentioned 3 or 4 times now about removing it, Im not sure if I want to go that route. Would any body on here be willing to tell me how they got thur it?

Quote: That is very difficult news to hear Ed. I'm really sorry. I can tell you that if I had to go through something like this, It would be God that would be the only one who could adequately help me through. God is my refuge, shelter and comfort. I went through some major trials in my life that literally brought me to the brink of suicide. It was then that I reached out to God for the first time in my life and my life has been transformed ever since. If you want the best comfort ever, reach out to God. Please feel free to pm me if you would like to know more about how you can turn to God. I will start praying for you though (and I will keep you in my prayers). I will pray for wisdom for the doctors as they are just discovering what is happening and I'll pray for strength, comfort, and healing for you.

Is your doctor an oncologist? Can your oncologist discuss with you what other treatment options, besides removal of prostate, might be applicable in your situation? It sounds quite soon to know just yet if those lighted spots in your bone scan are bone mets or simply something else. I am hoping that you can get a good discussion going with an oncology specialist who you trust, to let you know more what's really happening regarding staging, and what options may existfor you besides removal.

That said, my friend's Dad has his removed, and is now doing very well, living a busy life. A neighbor has had prostate cancer for about a year, and his doctors simply do the "watchful waiting" thing where he gets a scan every few months. In his case, things seem to be stable.

With more information, you'll learn what choices you may have.I'm hoping that more information can help you feel more in control. Here's hoping for a good rapport with your oncology doc, and wishing you a treatment plan that you can feel good about.

So sorry to read about your cancer. If it has not spread I would suggest removal if it were my spouse. At the same time I would be concerned that whatever led to the formation of cancer cells was not dealt with. Consider looking into a comprehensive treatment plan. Many allopathic doctors are now open to a holistic approach.

Not for everyone, but the raw food trucker comes to mind. He had a lot of health issue that were resolved with going raw.It might be an option short term. He had videos online documenting his transformation. http://www.healthy.net also has some good conventional and alternative information.

Ed my heart goes out to you right now. I can't confess to know what you are feeling, but I am pretty danged close to one who does. My husband was diagnosed a week ago with malignant melanoma. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi
I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. My husband had prostate cancer. So the bad news is you have cancer and that sucks...... the good news is that prostate cancer treatments are pretty dang effective. My husband had 3 lupron shots over the course of his treatment and 45 radiation treatments. The lupron is a drug that puts you into a menopause type state. Yep you read that correctly. Since prostate cancer is a testosterone fed cancer dropping your testosterone levels is key to the treatment. The side effects he had were hot flashes and he became emotional. The side effects from radiation were fatigue and bouts of diarrhea.. We went for treatment 5 days a week for 9 weeks. His cancer was contained to just his prostate . Its been 4 years now and his PSA is still less than 1. So far he is cancer free and is doing well. I know your kind of stunned right now and probably scared. I know I would be too. Just know that according to my husbands cancer center the USA has the best success at treating this particular cancer compared to other countries worldwide using the hormone/radiation therapy vs just radiation. Find a good doctor who specializes in cancer treatment, sign up for the support groups if your married get your wife on board for support and you will do awesome. Best wishes to you I will keep you in my prayers. Feel free to contact me by email if you want to talk to either myself or my husband with questions we will be happy to talk with you

I am sorry to hear about your cancer. This may or may not make you feel better, but my stepfather lived many years after he was first diagnosed with prostate cancer. He died in his 80's of something totally unrelated to his cancer. Every case is different, though. All you can do is muddle through the best you can and take it one day at a time.

My brother-in-law had his prostate gland removed in 2005 as he was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer. No further treatment and he is well. An elderly neighbour, who was not suitable for surgery has had hormone treatment and radiation which certainly seems to contain the growth and spread. He has ongoing treatment but still leads a very full and active life. His disease was diagnosed some years ago. There are some very good options for this disease and i wish you well in your treatment and recovery.

Ed, glad to see you back! I am sorry to hear about your cancer and I will be keeping you in my prayers as well. I second Kelly's post!

Do you still have your birds?

My husband's father had prostate cancer, diagnosed and treated eight years ago. I am not sure if the prostate was removed, but he is doing well, and we heard many supportive stories at the time of others who recovered from prostate cancer. Hope all the best for you.
