Red Ranger Chickens

Really helpful! I am very interested in the Red Rangers, and all of your data and pictures were very informative. Thanks!
Do you still have them? Or their offspring?
That was supposed to be directed at Weidnercharm...sorry, new at this :)

I was asked for an update in my red rangers.

All of them are culled and dressed out over 6 lbs each. One was 8 lbs. They were amazingly huge. It took a little longer to grow than the parental units, but they were wonderful and friendly. I kept a single hen because I hand fed her during the first week of life because she was not doing so well. She is now laying eggs.

I purchased more and found that these ones are not so great. These are Red Rangers from the hatchery and I am not as impressed as I was with the ones I originally purchased and the subsequent ones that I hatched. Must be a new batch of parents or new breeding or something.

I am trying the Rolin S this year and have one that is growing faster than the Cornish Cross I purchased same day. I like the Rolin S and will do the same experiment with them. Watch for the new feed on them.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, yes it does. Good luck with the Rolin S. Looking forward to hearing about them.

I have my first batch of red rangers and I ended up with all 6 being roosters. They are weighing being 4 and 5 pounds now, at 8 weeks. What were your rangers weighing when you culled them? I'm tempted to try one this weekend since I saw the start of a spur developing and I want to try skinning with a small bird. I don't have a way to separate them from my layers so everyone is eating a mix of 20% chick feed and 16% layer feed.
