White Leghorns, pros & cons??

I have a question about white leghorns, there is a guy giving away 17 hens/1 roster. They are about 4 to 5 years old, so my question is are these birds still worth "adopting". Any info will be help full, Thank you
4 or 5 years old is a little too old. They will not be laying very much, if at all.

we have 4 leghorns and we love them. we also have 2 red sexlinks and they are very friendly and calm, but do not lay anywhere close to the leghorns. TW (the wife) likes the white eggs better anyway. some things we have noticed, when young, they are very friendly as they grow they get a little skittish. when our girls were around 3 to 6 weeks they would let us pet them. they are around 12 weeks not and they don't want you touching them. they will squawk and run off. they still follow us around the yard when they are out of the pen. If they hear us outside they will find us and visit, just don't touch. we like ours and would get more.

I have a white leghorn & some golden Comets in the same pen they are day & night different the comets eat out of your hand while the leghorn his the back of the pen is there anything I can do to help her be less skiddish?

I have 5 white leghorns, and they are really good layers(pro),they lay through the winter(pro), but when it comes to laying an egg, 2 of them bite the rest of them to get out while they lay !!(con)
apparently they don't like to share the hutch while sitting in their boxes ??

but I love them for production, and personality :)

my white leghorns lay brown eggs ! and they are opposite when it comes to them being "skittish" mine were very skittish when we got them in the mail very young. but now they fight over who im suppose to pick up daily....if I pick up mindy, then another one keeps pecking my pant leg to pick her up....its pretty funny actually

but I love them all. I have buff orpingtons and black jersy giants as well.

they are really special. but ever since they were babies, I have spent every single day with them, holding them, petting them, and I always talk to them calling each one by their name.

several of them know their names, and 2 of them come when I call them. they are a lot smarter than people give them credit for.

I would start with the leghorn first on feeding out of your hand. I usually crouch down to their level, and just sit there with your hand extended with food in it. she should come around in time. you may have to do this seperatly at first ?

I have 2 White Leghorns. I love them. They both lay an egg just about every day, and they are very sweet. I see people say everywhere that Leghorns are very flighty, but mine are the exact opposite. They both love to jump onto my back and shoulders and if I sit down in the coop they are both some of the first ones to climb onto my lap. I handled them all the time when they were young, so maybe that's why they are so sweet?

A note to anyone who hasn't had Leghorns or is looking into getting them. People are always saying left and right that Leghorns are one of the flightiest breeds, but that's not always true. Same as people say that Rhode Island Red roosters are the most aggressive. I have owned seven RIR roosters in the last 3 years, and only one was aggressive. Some chickens just get the wrong labels I guess.
