Have a female Muscovie, not sure of her age, but don't think she is old, that has a perpetually dirty vent area. She is happy, active and alert. Eats great and seems to be pooping. She never swims so she never gets cleaned off. Plus all my other ducks are laying and I don't think she is. She was for a bit, now she does not seem to be. BUt not completely sure. I have 7 hens and get 6 eggs daily. When she layed a few eggs earlier, they were streaked with blood. Just a tiny bit, but blood just the same. Kinda freaked me out. Do I need to take her to the vet? The closest vet is pretty far away and she does not travel well, so if I don't have to transport her, I really don't want to. Like I said, she is happy and personable, wanders around all day with the others in the flock, just that icky dirty vent, and of course she is white!!
Thanks for any advice that is offered. I have had ducks quite a long time, but never had this happen.

I have 3 solid whitte Scovy ducks and the tiny bit of dirt stands out on them, I know mine when they come outside sometimes in the morning their vent area will be dirty because they poop where they sleep and it sits on their feathers. Mine are not the best to bath either so every once in a while I will literally pick them up one at a time and carry them to the pool and put them in, once they are in they kinda look like hey this is cool and bath and get out, they are my oldest at going on 9yrs so I give them a little slack. and a lttle blood is normal when egg laying first gets started, but keep an eye on her and if it keeps up then you may want to have her checked out or if it was more than streaked,. Sounds like other than bathing she is in good health.

Thank you. The other white one is always nice and clean in that area. The blood was streaky, not heavy or clotted. But I am a bit worried that I have one duck not laying and don't really know who. I am assuming it is her since the blood streaks on the eggs are not there any more. I will keep an eye on her and will take her in if I see her acting strangely.
Thanks again.

Ducks can lay everyday or every other day depending on breed. and to me duck eggs are a bit different than chicken eggs, the yolk is bigger and not as much white. but baking with them is just the best. as far as taste I prefer chicken but alot of folks love to eat duck eggs, so you take the test and decide.
