What did your chickens do today?

Today Frodo and Bilbo, both Cochin cockerels, decided it was way mor fun outside the run than in. I had to put them back inside a few times. Wing clipping on the way!

I introduced 5 new hens to my girls and my Roo. They seemed to have gotten along today very well.

My chicks Are four weeks old, and my buff Orpington and jersey giant were having a fight! The one is a hen, the other I believe to be a rooster! Anyway, had a squabble, standing off and flying at each other. Silly birds!

I walked into the coop and my favorite 10 week old buff jumped up onto the litter bed then onto the roost board and from there onto my shoulder where she stayed as I moved around the coop!

We moved all the four and five-week-old chicks outside to the new coop and yard. The egg layers spent about an hour huddled in the corner scared out of their wits while the silkies foraged and exercised their wings even though they get about two seconds of air time. The silkies have used the yard a couple of times because they don't really fly and we didn't have the wire on the top until yesterday. I didn't want anyone flying out if I turned my back for a minute because we do have dogs and predators in the area. Finally the egg layers decided the yard was safe and all the chicks spent the entire day running around, foraging, peeping loudly and climbing up and down the ramp to the coop. However, nobody ventured inside the coop. They had to be put in tonight when it got dark. We'll see if they figure out how to leave the coop tomorrow morning or need to be shown.

They were so outgrowing their cage in the garage. All they would do the last couple of days was pick on each other and sit around in the corner when they weren't eating. We couldn't finish that coop fast enough because now they're so happy.
