It is a good idea to have at least a little alfalfa on hand to sprinkle in their pen for them to pick at. You also will want to get a good pheasant rearing book. Most people have to de-beak  at about 3 days old especially with alot of ringneck chicks. The ornamentals are a little easier to raise but  all need a high protien game bird starter. By 2 weeks when everyone is up,healthy, and active 25 chicks will need a brooder about 6ftx6ft, at 4 weeks a 10x10 and so on. I start mine in a 21ftx 10 enclosure and just open the brooder gaurd as needed. Be extra careful when cathing and handling them. Never grab just a leg it will dislocate. The best way to handle them is in the evening w/ a soft cloth or net. The ornamentals will drop their feathers often times when captured. This is just some things that come to mind , but i highly reccomend a good pheasant and game bird rearing book.  Good Luck smile

Hello, I myself am getting pheasants today, to raise to eat. I am very nervous about raising  them, but I am up to the challenge. I"m only getting 10 of them though, because we figured that we would start off with an easy number, so its not so hard to raise them.
Napalongtail- I was wondering how much space mine will need eaach week if I only have 10 of them?

I have raised several batchs of pheasant chicks.
They are very skittish as they get older.
They will also drowned themselves if they are given water
in a regular chicken waterer. You will have to rocks in their
waterer.  They are not very smart when it comes to get a
drink.  They need to be watered with a quail waterer. The dish on the bottom has a smaller opening so they can't get
their little heads in the water.  I had some sleep in their water dish once and they drowned.sad.  They are fun to raise
just need some extra care.  yippiechickie.  They also do better if you feed them chick grower for a few weeks longer then a chicken chick.

They also need lots of room for everyone because they will kill each other.

Good Luck.  They are beautiful birds.

Proud mom of 9 pheasant chicks. 3 adult pheasant and a flock of 28 chicks. Multi variety
