Broody Turkey Thread!!!

If I let her do whatever she does on her own, how long can this last??

I don't have the answer to that - but... can you set her up with some fertile chicken (or other bird) eggs and let her go for it?

Penelope's total 'brooding time' was nearly eight weeks - two weeks+ on her own eggs, a week on a golf ball, then four weeks on the eggs from Arielle. She didn't budge!

Okay. I gave her a nest of golf balls. If we kick her out of her coop, she sometimes will walk around and eat grass, and drink some water, but usually, not for long! She will pace around the coop again, or go and lay in the back (where she lays on NO balls?!). The second you open the door, she hops on the golf balls, and carefully will move any that have rolled out of the pile. Her poops are a little dry, and she'll only eat a little if she's really distracted. Its kind of annoying now, I really hope she straightens out here soon!! I've never had a bird this bad!!!

I am sad to report that Penelope was killed by neighbors dogs a week ago last Thursday. When we interrupted the attack in the driveway, she ran toward the road... by the time we got there, she was being eaten alive by one of the dogs. We got her out alive, but could not save her.
Her 'adopted egg' babies are mature enough to have no real problems without her (they were quite lost for a few days), the 'genetic babies' that have hatched from the eggs I saved when predators (probably the same dogs, but didn't see) tore up her nest(s) are now 4 & 5 weeks old, so they'll finish being reared by me. Her mate, Jake, is kind of healing... I hope.
