Hello,
Thank you for looking at my thread, I have two 7 week old mallard ducks and was wondering when you can tell the sex? They both look like females right now with no green coming through on the head(s)! If they aren't old enough to tell sex please correct me as to when!

Thanks!

I, too, have mallard ducklings! They're about 6 1/2 weeks. (I also have 2) By now, on mine at least, it's very obvious that at least 1 is a boy, as the green tint is WAY noticeable. (which leads me to assume my other is female, as she doesn't have any green)
I would *think* by now you would see SOME tint, right? Any pics? =)

If their wings are feathered....look at the tertial coverts...if they're edged with white, it's a hen....not edged....a drake. Do not assume a hint of green means a drake....often hens will also have a hint of green.

sometimes the green doesn't come so early, if they quack loudly it's a female, if the quack is very soft and hoarse it's a male. by 7 weeks though you should see at least some green.
