Blood in older chicks stool

I have 19 chicks and the ones in this pen are between 5 and 8 weeks old. I had them on medicated starter until the second bag ran out a few days ago. I switched to pullet grower at the advice of the feed store person since about 60% of the chick starter was turning to waste dust. Today I saw two spots of just blood and in one corner a tiny poop covered in blood. I noticed one chick who seemed lethargic but she perked up to normal as soon as I refilled the food trays. I checked her first and sure enough found small traces of blood near the vent (white feathers made it easy.). Is coccidiosis unusual at this age? My feed store doesn't open for another hour but I'm heading right over to pick up Corrid. I've separated her out into a dog kennel but I know the damage is probably already done. Anything else I should be doing?

No, cocci would not be so unusual at this age. You should see some sign that they don't feel well, though. Usualy they fluff up as if cold, and don't want to eat or drink, or so I have read. And they can die so quiclky of cocci -- it could be you are just catching it in time.

Corid won't hurt anything but your wallet. As drugs go, it is nearly harmless. Good luck!

Where could it have come from? It's been the same batch of chicks since Easter. No new arrivals at all. I did bring into new hands but I had them in quarantine in the dog kennel across the garage. Could they have brought it in?

X2! I've seen three four month old peafowl from my feed store die from cocci (confirmed by UC Davis necopsies).
 
If it's the Corid 9.6% liquid solution, the dosage is 9.5ml per gallon of water for 5 days. CC's and ML's are the same.
If it's the Corid 20% soluable powder, the dosage is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water for 5 days.
Keep in mind that sick birds usually dont drink on their own. You'll have to use an eyedropper and put a couple of drops of the mixture on the side of the beak for her to drink. You'll have to do this about 5-6 times a day until she can drink the mixture on her own.
 
Thank you! Iveemptied the bedding as best I can out if the pen and I sprayed everything down with bleach water. Using it to clean all food and water dishes as well (I found a bloody poop in the food if just put down so that will have to be trash.). Will mix the meds up while I wait for the pen to dry before putting fresh bedding down. Could I leave just the tarp liner on the floor for easy cleaning with no bedding until they are well?

Just for your information, bleach wont kill cocci...ammonia will. Let everything dry first before you use ammonia water to spray or clean everything. As far as the tarp goes or any other bedding...use whatever you think is best.
