Rouen Duck thread

Any help sexing these two? I picked them up from Tractor Supply from the mixed ducks thinking that they wereboth Rouen ducks, and I can't tell if the smaller one with the darker head might be a hybrid or is just darker and smaller. The smaller one also has a slightly raspy quack, but I can only compare it to the bigger one, which has a pretty clear quack. They're about 8 weeks old I think.

Hello! My Rouen duck just lost her/his voice 3 days ago. Bitty is 100% blind and has become my house pet. Ive even had to have one of her eyes removed surgically. She’s well watched over and cared for. I’ve read Rouen drakes lose their voice at maturation when developing their adult quack. I know drakes don’t quack like hens, but they do develop a nodule on their syrinx (pharynx) that makes them unable to make the same quack as a hen. So laryngitis at maturation sounds plausible. Bitty may be a drake. I’ve NEVER had a Rouen drake that looked like a text book drake. I’ve yet to own one w a neck ring or completely green iridescent head. Bitty, on the other hand, has always been more solid ash black. The tann/ brown feathers she did have just recently fell out and are being replaced by bluish grey ones. She also has several sections of long white feathers coming in... so maybe she’s a he. I’m obviously more concerned about her voice loss. She’s had NO external injury. She’s healthy and plays all day. I’ve noticed she only wants her softer vegetables to eat however. In fact she throws a fit If I don’t give her non stop tomatoes. It’s as though her throat is sore. I’ve lost 2 ducklings in the past to infection before I could get them to a vet. She’s/ hes not acting sick AT ALL. Bitty is REALLY ANXIOUS though without her voice. She has no sight, which makes her nervous. Now she has no way to tell me when she’s lost, scared, hungry or stuck behind a chair. She walks around trying ALL day to make a sound. Sometimes a real low mature (not peeping) sound comes out, when she’s protesting. Aside from that just a whisper. I realize bits possible she ate something despite how much I sweep and mop. She uses her mouth as eyes since she’s blind. I’ve found mop string (from mopping all day) and string off towels (because she eats pine chips) in her poop. If she does have something foreign in her throat, what are my options? I’m still recovering from her eye surgery. Has anyone else had a duck lose their voice at maturation. ( I believe she’s 10-12 wks old) Has anyone else had drakes that don’t look like drakes?

Can you video Bitty trying to make noise? How long ago since the surgery? I’d think if there was something stuck Bitty would be able to eat or swallow very well. Do you offer grit not in food but in a separate bowl?
