This is Lavender - my fourteen-week-old Coronation. At first, I was sure he/she was a roo. Then a hen. Now I'm waffling and thinking he's a roo. >.> I've never been so undecided about one of my chickens before. This bird is not crowing - the speckled sussex Lavender was raised with was crowing at eleven weeks. He/she does not stand like a roo. His/her neck feathers look like roo hackle feathers to me until I take a closer look. They're really not pointed, but the color fades and so they do look pointed from a distance. Also, the comb and wattles are pink rather than red. I'm happy to have him whatever the gender - I just thought I'd check with you guys. I'm getting lots of mixed answers elsewhere. Any input would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks, guys. :) I just adore him. I'm hoping that there won't be any issues between him and my silkie roo. This one seems very afraid of the roo. Even though he's twice the rooster's size, lol.

I've had great luck raising a young rooster with an older one and them getting along. There might be a fight here and there to set who's the top man, but that's it. You'll have to watch them to make sure it doesn't become more than that.

That's what I'm hoping. I've never raised a standard and a bantam, so this will be new for me. I did have a showgirl roo with my silkie roo (they were the same age and raised together) and they almost killed each other. I had to rehome the showgirl. :(

I'm planning to be vigilant.

well, most my silkies have the small dog attitude (the hens are worse than the roosters) but I have been able to run two silkie roos in my silkie pen without to much problem

He looms like a she...check for saddle feathers, but the comb looks like a hen.
