Welsh Harlequin Breed Club

Hi @lomine! Brrr, it does look cold! I'm glad I live in Georgia right now, we're still getting some warm days! I won't think that in the summer lol. Anyways, I heard that Welsh Harlequins get their adult colors when they're 2 years old, after their second molt. You have some beautiful girls, and hopefully they're handling the weather OK!

Thanks for the reply. I guess I get to enjoy some more pattern changing. It was fun to see how they changed after their first molt. I love how each one is different too.

The cold doesn't seem to bother them. I think they are more annoyed that their water was slushy and that the snow was taking up space. I shoveled their run and put down straw and they seems much happier. Thanks to the wind my winterizing efforts didn't work too well, so I have to make some modifications.

I lived in Georgia for a few years when I was a kid (Ft Benning). I remember one winter we got about an inch of snow and it was crazy. I think we had a snow day. It makes we laugh now knowing how little snow that really is.

Glad to help! My Welsh Harlequins are 6 weeks old and just getting their feathers in. It's fun to watch them grow and get their beautiful feathers. They literally grow over night! And before you know it, they're quacking! We haven't had any snow the 3 years we've lived in Georgia. I was born in Ohio, so I know what it's like to get a lot of snow! We've gotten used to Georgia temperatures though, when we go to Ohio to stay with our family for Christmas, it's f......fff........freezing!!!!!! Lol.

Hello, could you direct me to a reputable Welsh Harlequin breeder in the Skagit Valley are aof Washington State, and surrounding area? We live in Anacortes. Our breeder is no longer in business. He retired.

Hi. I am new to this forum and Welsh Harlequins. I have other ducks though. I was wondering if you can tell me at what age do the drakes get their tail curl. I have a drake, born in Jun, that already had a dark head and a tail curl. I think he is older than 2.5 months old. Can someone help?

Hello all,

I am interested in expanding my flock to be primarily WH (I currently have one WH drake and one WH hen, in addition to assorted Indian Runners), and am setting eggs in the incubator this weekend (I am buying eggs from a breeder so there is more diversity). Has anything come of the breed club? If I am going to expand my flock the way I hope to (goal is 30 hens by next fall) I could really use some support. I have ordered a copy of the American Poultry Association's Standards of Perfection that I hope will help, as I want to make sure the ducks I raise meet SQ standards.

Happy to help in any way I can with the club. Thanks!
