Hi. I am Umar from Pakistan.
My peahen laid first egg from the tree... lol... and the second in the nest both are cracked...
The third which she laid, i pick it up just to save it. As i dont want to loose anymore...
I am confused when i put eggs in her nest again?
And how will i come to know that she is broody?
Help would be appreciated

Don't they usually lay four? If she lays the last one somewhere normal and then sets on it, you could probably put the other one back under her. But she might not go broody. Wish ours didnt...:) You'll just have to watch her to see, I think. Good luck! Are you sure they're fertile?

Yaa i saw them mating thrice. I am hoping that they would be fertile.
And i did pick that egg? I ask someone he told me to pick up. Shall i put the egg again. In the nest or not.

Two of my three hens have laid seven eachso far.

Usually the hen will lay from 5 to 7 eggs then start sitting on them. If you take the eggs away she will not go broody. She will stop laying for a while then lay 5-7 more. If you are afraid she will break the eggs but want her to go broody then take her eggs but put the same number of chicken eggs in the nest. Once she starts sitting you can sneak her eggs back under her at night.

Good luck!

Hey umar, i am from pak too...lol
Just get a incubator and incubate them yourself... my peahen laid 3 eggs last season... this season she is sitting on 5...
Let her make her nest wherever she wants, just stay away from her... she will most likely sit on the next clutch of eggs...

Our peahen laid hers on top of a piece of paneling which is lying across rafters in our barn.

She is high up. I'm really hoping they are NOT fertile. Have not seen them mating. We will have a challenge getting her and the babies
down in one piece, or getting her and the eggs down. Last time she went broody her eggs did not hatch and I think she blamed me.

I have chciken hens and muscovey ducks that hatch out babies in the loft of my barn all the time and they coax the babies down and my loft is 12 foot from the ground.

Peachicks (unlike chicken chicks) hatch with flight feathers so though their muscles are not really strong yet, they can "fly" at least enough to slow their decent. My nests are 6-8 ft off the ground and the times I have let them hatch their own there are no casualties leaving the nest.
