It's stories that yours that keep me going! Thank you for the hugs! Taking a deep breath and moving forward, ironically we got offered another turkey today! LOL!! I don't think I'm ready quite yet, but next year maybe! :) Thank you for your kindness! I'm just releved to have "normal" birds for the time being! Off to clean the coop ...any more turkey questions I'll know where to address them! Thanks again!
 
I have turkey eggs that I placed in an incubator cause the clutch was to big for the hen to cover. 12 out of 16 have successfully hatched ...the other four still waiting on. (overdue) ...one of the eggs that is long over due the hatch date but the chick is chirping away inside. I had a couple of turkeys that were twisted up in the shell the wrong way and had to help the hatch. They are doing fine now. My question is that I am unsure if this chick is unable to pip a hole...it may be turned around as well. How long from the time they start peeping do they usually hatch? I am afraid of losing the chick in the shell but I dont know if the yolk sac has been absorbed as of yet...can anyone tell me when the yolk sac is absorbed and how long after peeping sounds do they usually hatch...any help is greatly appreciated...thanks
 
If it's been pipping for a day or so, I would open up the side with the air sac to see if the membranes are too dry for the poult to sufficiently move around. If the membranes are white and feel rubbery, it's time to help out. If they are moist and soft, leave it be.
 
I waited to long...this morning no peeping...I opened it and the chick had passed..very sad.

15 turkeys about 12 weeks old. Bought from reputable rearer. All for christmas dinner sales. 1 died for no reason I know. Was fine at bedtime. Miserable in the morning. Feathers fluffed up an dwings down. I isolated him and went in to seek advice. Came out about an hour later and she was dead. 1 week later another looks poorly. I isolated her. Still looks miserable 2 days later. Poo not usual white more yellow/brown. What might be wrong? Any ideas? Jilly
 
I have a 16 mo old Bronze tom that has developed a crusty white coat all over his waddles and snood. He is in an isolated corner pen by himself. I had two laying hens in with him until about 3 weeks ago when a dog get in the pen and killed the two hens. I had gathered eggs every day and had not noticed a problem with the tom. His waddle was soft and warm and he often strutted around with it puffed up. He now keeps his snood retracted and there is a orangeish white crusty coat all over his head and neck area. Is this Favus? If so, what is the best treatment? I have read that Tinactin might cure it if it is fungus. How should it be applied and how often? Can he still be harvested for Thanksgiving dinner?

Any info would be appreciated.
