Attempting the pressure canner today.  First time.... ever.  I have an innate fear of things that can go boom no matter how remote the possibility.

So... in the maiden voyage of the canner right now is just a batch of boiled peanuts, not canned, just for eating, I'm about 30 minutes into the gentle rocking stage.  Not quite as freaked out now.  Once it's done then I'll start canning the rest of the 50 pounds of raw peanuts I have sitting in my living room and soaking in the tub.

Recipe..... http://www.pickyourown.org/BoiledPeanuts.htm

Did
13 pints of apple slices, 3 pints cowboy candy with habaneros, 5 half pints of dilled pearl onions, and 6 pints pomegranate jelly yesterday.  If everything goes well and I have a few minutes in the next few days I'll be making candy apple jelly.

I finally got a computer up and running. It is like freakenstine, but it works.
I was getting jittery without the recipe index. I had put everything on disk before we wiped the hard drive, but byc is easier than reinstalling everything. I also have cowboy candy on the way. I sliced them and they are waiting for my sinuses to get their second wind.  lol
good going with the pressure canner. thumbsup I was thinking about canning some peppers... but why? I sliced them up and froze them instead.

I still have a bushel of poblanos that I can not make myself do anything with. next year I will not grow a garden. I need a rest.

Did 7 pints of applesauce today. I think that may be the last of my canning for awhile. DD loves cranberry juice so I may do that next weekend, but other than that, I am pretty much done for the year.

We'll get our 1/4 beef after the first of the year, and after that, very little shopping until late spring. cool

My mom added a full gallon bucket of misc. peppers to the jars she gave me today.  All that was left on her plants.  Thinking about canning a few of them since I really don't have room in the freezer!  She also gave me a pressure cooker, brand new, just needs a new seal, that she picked up at the flea market this morning for $5.  Apparently my canner was just too big lol

GREAT DEAL! wow. I bet the person who got rid of it never got over the ''things that go 'boom''' factor.
So what would we do with all those canned peppers before next year's peppers start to bury us again? oh, wait. I am not going ti garden next year. riiight. wink

Mom finds deals like that all the time.  I still haven't gotten my deal 'compass' resettled since we moved out here.  Only finding small things here and there.  Like a 25 cent stainless food mill.  It's been well used, only one size holes but it'll work great for tomato sauce next year.

I can't eat peppers, shouldn't even be handling them..... have no clue what to do with this bucket!  Hubby STILL hasn't finished off the half bushel of habaneros from last year.  Thinking maybe making a hot sauce if I can find a propane burner to cook it outside.  Don't feel like wearing a respirator for an entire day.  Otherwise I'll just toss them in the canner.

Just did 4 quarts of 15 Bean and Ham soup. I started out with 5, but I broke my first ever jar, whole bottom came off in one clean piece! I couldn't believe the sadness I felt when I looked into the canner and saw all that waste!

I luuuuuurve chickens.

... or, as I think I will be doing... toss them to the chickens.
I am brine pickling some. I sliced them, removed the seeds and white part, and they are now soaking in water to remove some heat. Then, anything that grows between now and frost is chicken food.
I burn all over.

Best thing I ever did was downsize, it's hard to hold back in the spring sometimes but I've been making myself.
