Just thought I'd start a chat thread for anyone to talk about things that are relevant to them.
Welcome friends (and friends I haven't met yet)!

Keep it family-friendly and remember BYC rules-be kind to everyone.

Sorry-I don't even HAVE a front porch, let alone a swing-but I do have a big hammock underneath two big Red Maple trees I don't need to mention the one tree is dead, do I?

I found the picture while I was searching for parch swing-it seemed like a good choice! I would LOVE to have a porch like that! And sure, bring your juicer! I'll put some sweet tea in the sun to brew while I wait on you!

I just made some carrot-apple-lemon-ginger and it is SO GOOD. I usually put cucumbers in it too, but I am out. I don't like carbonation so the ginger gives it a bit of a bite instead.

We do HAVE a front porch but it isn't very big and is taken up mostly by a huge dog bed for the Booga and a chair we put stuff on while we open the door and some plants that are supposed to be planted but haven't gotten around to it yet.

So any plans for he weekend?

We are taking the week of Memorial day off...a staycation...to finish up some outside projects before it gets too hot. Putting a vent skin on the original coop's roof, finishing the siding on the goat shed, finishing the trim work on the new coop's pen. need to set up the coyote trap because DH heard them yipping yesterday on his walk on the further part of our property (only 9 acres so not THAT far!!!!) we think lost one of our dorkings the other day...she disappeared and although I hope she is broody somewhere, I fear the worst. so DH patrolled the fence tonight making sure no branches were on it to ground it out.

The original coop needs a pen, too, for safety, but I doubt we will get that far.

Rachael asked me to go with her tomorrow to pick up her pair of fainting goats she has been waiting on. We went 2 weeks ago and picked up a pair of male GP puppies for her. Her farm is 200 acres in the middle of nowhere and there are coyotes everywhere, so she got a pair of GPs for protection of the animals and birds. She wanted to make sure they would protect anything, though, so she is also getting the goats. We are keeping the puppies here, as well as the goats for a while until things settle down a little. She had already bought them when Jasmine (her little Min-Pin) started getting bad, and she wanted Jasmine to be take care of before she introduced the puppies. They are so sweet, and very calm. She doesn't like the puppy stage, but so far these puppies are not like a lot would be. Of course, Rachael has Min-Pins and a Beagle mix, so they are nothing like she was used to puppies acting. We raised Golden Retrievers for several years and they are very comparable.
Saturday we have a chicken barbecue with our church.

We are talking about getting a livestock guardian dog. We have the three Leonbergers but they are a bit oblivious and don't deal with the heat well so the husband doesn't like leaving them outdoors in the summer. I think we need something with a shorter coat than a Great Pyr. they are wonderful dogs though. So sorry to hear about Jasmine not doing well. but Rachael is probably right, it is not good to stress her out by introducing new pups in her last days, if it is that bad.

I just dont' want a singleton puppy but I don't want a pair either. LOL cant decide what is best. I want the dog to bond to the goats but I don't want it to be all alone and want to play with them. but the husband isn't ready to get two puppies. and I am not sure I am ready to get two puppies either. sigh.

The chicken on Booga's back is one of our Silver Grey Dorkings. They are such sweet birds and love to sneak inside whenever they can.

What are GP puppies? Also, Psyanki, what kind of hen is that in the picture? She is really pretty!
Great Pyrenees.

The man she got these two from is a (young) vet. He has a mini horse, a bunch of goats, and lots of chickens, along with the pair of GP. He recommended (and I think most others say the same thing) two LGD. He says that way one is always on duty, but it seems some dogs bond better to chickens and others to larger animals. His male is only a year old and he drags home coyotes pretty frequently. He doesn't even lock up his chickens anymore. They are in a pasture with a coop and lots of trees, but he hasn't lost one since he got the dogs.

By the way, Laura-thanks so much for the Pysanky eggs! Rachael kept one or two, but she gave the rest to me! They are so pretty! I would love to learn how to do that someday!
