I am serious someone needs to take my debit card away and lock me up. I went to the feed store to buy feed for the flock and I came home with 2 bags of feed and 4 new chicks

. I bought 2 New Hampshire Reds a Buff Orp and a Barred Rock all pullets.
The little BR just wouldn't stand still for a picture.

They are just the cutest little fuzzballs!

My husband was the one who pointed them out

and when I seen them, I was all oooh Horny Henry would love a girlfriend so in goes the little BO.He then said, if Henry gets a girlfriend Pablo needs one as well into the box goes the BR then I seen the little Reds. Good thing the kids were still in school because if not we would have came home with more than 4.

Hehe!! I did the same thing!! This is our first year with chickens, we started with 3 red sex links & 3 amber sex links..... Then came 20 Cornish X (for meat)... And then I just came home with 2 barred rock pullets! My hubby said Enough!!!!

Now only if I can find a silkie and a frizzle breeder who is local

I know I'm already planning what chicks I want for next year!! We started this adventure only planning on doing meat birds, but I convinced him that if I had a few girls of my own it would make the processing of the meat ones easier (I lied, I'm already attached to them to). They are awesome pets!!!!!

I hate and love it so! I can't go to the feed store without a plant or chick or duckling. So darn cute and 'sensible'. Going insane sure is fun and rewarding though. Eh, better than spending the time and money on other crap though. It's spring and it's time to enjoy the outdoor life. Watching your plants and animals grow and reaping the benefits.
I love toiling in the garden and watching the hens, chicks and ducks run around the yard and when they beg for treats :) Spend hours just watching them... Swear the ducks speak chicken or vice maybe the other way around. They way they follow each other and banter.
I say good for you. Enjoy it. Amazing what great happiness and fulfillment can come from something as simple as a little seed or egg.
Can hear four day old chicks chatting now. More on the way. Nothing like it. Fun experience, do it as much as you can. It's a drug and once you are hooked...

''chickens are like potato chips, you can't just have one!'' <-- that is so true. we started with nine and now we have 25

I started with 12 went down to 10 at highest point I had 58 now I'm back down to 42. Going to butcher 7 in the fall plus we are thinking of getting 25 meat birds in Sept. butcher in Nov. I'm already thinking about which ones I want to breed and hatch out in the spring plus I am going to buy 6 Lavender Orpingtons and 6 Coronation Sussex from a lady that sold me some chicks this spring. My name is Ginger and I am a chicken addict.
