Building the new coop and run for the chicks. We have 16 orp pullets 5 weeks old. Planning to cover the run (6 ft tall) and have an active compost pile right in the middle of the run. We have been retired for 21 years and traveling in the western US in a ram dooly flatbed, travel trailer with either a pair of motorcycles on the back or a pair of atv's. During recent years it has mostly been with the atv's in Utah. But it's time to settle down here at home in NW Ga now and that means it's time for chickens...! :) I haven't had chicks since I was a kid (70 years old now, retired builder). Here are a few pics of our progress...comments/advice welcome.

The back will have double doors, opening at the center for clean out...roost and splatter boards will be just inside the doors. Nest boxes will be on the outside at the long oblong opening that can be seen.

Your coop is looking Great.

I thought for sure as I was reading your post, you were going to say you planned on making a trailer to haul them with you while you were touring the country side.

My wife and I are just now getting around to building our new coop as well. Time and Monies, LOL

We free range our girls most of the time, they are fun to watch.

Enjoy

Thanks scoobie....that would be a hoot...! hauling the egg layers around with us. Not many campgrounds would welcome the pungent smell of the "girls coop"...HA! However we did camp in the AZ desert a good bit...also in WY...that would work except we would be over run by coyotes and other varmints trying to get to the birds.
