Guinea hens won't go into coop...

Hello... I have a coop I built its 8ftx8ftx8ft . It is divided in half. One side has 10 chickens the other side has 8 guineas. The coop is 2 ft off ground so the run can continue under it. There is an 8 ft run on either side so with the extra 2 ft underneath that is a 10x8 run for each side. There is a 5.5 ft ramp that is 1 ft wide with strips of 2x2 for grips every 6 inches. The chickens have finally learned to go in at night but the guineas just sleep on a pile on the ground and then I gather them up and have to put them in and once inside they go to highest roost and sleep. There is a light inside. Any advice on getting them to go in. The reason I built two halves is eventually I want to free roam the guineas by opening the 4 ft run door and then lock them in at night. Any advice?

I can't imagine herding guines up a ramp unless it was against a fence or wall. possibly make a small platform and move the ramp against the fence, and mebey a bit wider. you might then be able to herd them up and in.

or,

keep it up, they may finally get the idea.

Thank you the coop still needs a couple things done but I am pleased the wife told me it had th look good lol... And when they are free roaming I can heard them into the run and I thought it would work fine cause they would go towards the light and roost up high but hasn't worked yet lol....
 
Guineas hate change/new things, so if the coop is new to them that's the main reason they sleep on the ground. If they were raised in the coop but just the ramp is new, then in their pea-brained minds the ramp is something really scary to them. You could try taking the ramp down and putting a few stumps at different heights in front of the coop door for them to hop up on instead Maybe even sprinkle some treats on the stumps on and off thru the day so they get used to the stumps more quickly. They may like the stumps better than the ramp. Once they get used to going into and out of the coop via the stumps and know that's where they need to sleep each night you can try putting the ramp back and see how it goes. Expect plenty of rubber necking and discussion about it tho...

Out of no where my father-in-law went out right before it got dark to check the chickens and guineas and see if anyone was sleeping outside at to his surprise he looked a the window and they were all sleeping inside on the roost so I dunno I guess they got smart over night lol...
